w000t w000t!

So much going on, I really should have updated sooner.

So a while ago, a week or two, I saw Switchfoot twice. Once with my sister in Norfolk (we went all that way by ourselves!) and then 3 days later in Charlotte, NC (with all our friends from school)

The shows, of course were just great, seriously, great. After the Norfolk show, my sister and I waited around and we got to talk to Jon, Tim, and Jerome for a really long time. Such great guys, so kind. When you're talking to them it feels like they're your best friend. An hour before, they were rocking out on stage in front of a thousand people, and now you're face to face with them, one and one, and they really care about you. Then we hung around with Jerome and my friend mandy talking for like 20 mins about the most random stuff. Romey's the kinda guy you could hang out with for hours and never stop lauging. He makes everyone he's talking to feel so comfortable.

On the Friday all my buddies from school and I rolled down to Charlotte, NC to the Tremont Music Hall. We were in front of the venue at noon, 7 hours before doors. The band wasn't even there yet. But it turned out that we got to talk with everyone all throughout the afternoon. Once again, they are just the most down to earth, sincere guys you'll ever meet. e and Trimble played our acoustic version of "awakening" for Tim and he really liked it. That however wasn't the highlight of the night.

Andy barron, Switchfoot's photographer (seriously one of the greatest photographers I've ever met) hooked me up with a photo pass so I got to use my new camera to shoot the show. God was good to me and I got some quality shots. God really blessed with me them.

So yes, twas amazing. Oh, and their new disc, which is coming out the day after christmas, is going to be mind blowing. If you never liked SF before, or wasn't too into them, you should revisit them, because their sound has really evolved into something neat. I am really excited for it. Should be some really groundbreaking stuff for them and music in general.

After that i shot a small ocncert at LU with the help of my friend James from church, and I just got back from orientation and Barnes and Noble, where I'm getting an amazing job! 6.75 an hour, 30% off across the store, and 50% off everything in the Starbucks cafe. Yum yum.

So thats it I guess. I'm buzzed, because God is so good to be. I don't deserve anything he's given me, but he is so generous. Wow. I'm heading off to the beach tomorrow to be with my family at the beach. I love them so much. My uncles and cousins and aunts, they are so great, such a joy to be around. I can't wait to spend the next few days with them!

see ya'll

Maybe I really am happier being alone?

Howdy friends,

I wish i wrote more. Things are still running through my mind, I'm just not getting them out like I was before.

Anyway, the last few weeks have been great. My new camera is excellent. Its very refreshing to have equipment that can do whatever you tell it to. Truly a blessing.

Things on the photo front are very exciting. A friend of mine recommended me to a band he knows and I went to shoot one of their shows last Thursday. They're called Starting Tuesday and we're playing in a coffee shop at James Madison University. There wasn't much in the way of light, so the pictures didn't turn out well, but it was a good experience for me. By the time the show was over, it was 2:30am.

Before I hit the road I swung by 7-11 to buy some caffeine. Let me tell you, 7-11, at 2:30 in the morning, in a college town, is QUITE an experience. Before I even got inside, a pack of drunk girls staggered up to me and start saying something about beer and french fries. Once inside, I was stuck behind 5 guys who all had giant trays of chili cheese nachos. The people behind the counter were two old ladies: Agnes and Delores. Long story short, I chugged two Vault energy drinks, scarfed two hot dogs, and made the 2 hour drive home without falling asleep!

My parents have been really cool about things lately. Letting me drive that far, by myself, on a school night, really shows what kind of trust they have in me. I never realized the stakes, never realized how much responsibility I suddenly have. Crazy.

After 2 hours of sleep, I got up and went to school. After school, my buddy Richard and I drove up to Charlottesville to catch Mute Math at Starr Hill. Let me say up front, it was THE BEST show I have EVER been to. The three opening bands (Plain Jane Automobile, Jonezetta, and Shiny Toy Guns) were great! They all had really good stage presence and music. After the first 3 bands, I didn't think things could get any better, but Mute Math blew the place out of the water. I was literally 2 inches away from Paul's keyboard, and I could feel every note of Roy's bass pounding through me.

Not only was the show the AMAZING, my pictures were too. God was really faithful, and everything just fell into place. In fact, right now Mute Math has one of my pictures as their myspace profile pic. Check it out:

I am still on a high from that show. Coming up on Nov. 7th my sister Laura and I are driving to Norfolk for Switchfoot, then on the 10th, me and all of my buddies from school are going down to Charlotte to catch the foot again.

Exciting times, very exciting times.

Check out the pictures, and thanks for reading!

Howdy folks,

Last weekend my mom and I flew to Nashville and drove to Bowling Green to visit Western Kentucky University.
32,000 ft
We took the tour of the campus and met with head photojournalism professor. I'm really excited. Their program is the best in the country and the campus is really nice. I can't wait until I graduate. I have never felt such a calling to do something in my whole life. I really feel like God is telling me that's where he wants me. That is a huge answer to prayer for me. HUGE.

A lady who came to my church for a while set me up with her son, who's also majoring in photojournalism at WKU. He's a really nice guy, and an amazing photojournalist. If you want to see his stuff go here: www.edwardlinsmier.com

After I met with the PJ professor, Ed invited me to hang out with him for the afternoon. He introduced me to alot of other people in the program and I learned A TON about the trade. I saw some amazing photography, learned how to freelance, and learned alot about cropping and editing pictures. It was awesome, very good times.

After grabbing some food, my mom and I drove back to Nashville.

Because we wanted to stick around for church on Sunday, mom and I explored Nashville, saw the sights, and really got a good feel for the city. Sunday morning we drove over to Rocketown, an awesome coffee bar/art studio/rock venue downtown. Oh, and it has Sixth Avenue Skate Park (as featured in the Switchfootage DVD). Some good friends of my dad planted a church there to reach out to the inner city and young musicians and artists from the area. I think I saw Switchfoot's tour manager there. I'm pretty sure their publicist goes there too. Anyways, the church is called Midtown Fellowship and is amazing. The music, the preaching, the sense of community in the body, its all so strong, and real. Christ's love is really there. It will definetly be worth the hour drive every Sunday morning.

Because of some academic free market thing, i'm getting in-state tuition, which is saving my folks a buttload. So they are offering to buy me a digital SLR for me to use now and through college. I have my eyes on a the Canon 30D
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
but I know absolutely nothing about lenses....

I'm really blessed to be able to go to college, and to have parents who can afford to buy me a really nice camera. Even though I'm saying this, I still take so much of what i have for granted. I need change, badly. Another thing I'm struggling with is compassion to the homeless. When a bum asks me for spare change to buy clothes with, I can't help thinking that he is going to buy drugs, or alcohol with the money. But I do believe there are people out there who actually would buy clothes. I don't want to enable their addictions, but I want to love them like Christ. Maybe that would mean me giving him the shirt off my back?

Well I have to wrap this up and go to sleep, but here's another exciting piece of news, my man Ed from WKU is going to set me up with Chet White, a staff photographer from the paper here in Lynchburg. If things go well I am going to join him every once and a while as he shoots for the paper. I'm so excited!!!!

Thanks for reading all this, and for the prayers,

Luke

So.....I quit my job at the grocery store. I tried to be nice about it, but my manager was being a real jerk. She kept telling me threatening me by saying she would give me bad references. In the middle of my rational, polite conversation with her, she hung up on me. It was really kind of sad, very unprofessional. But I'm getting my last paycheck in a week. Farewell Food Lion, your produce and meat departments were terrible, and your customer service was abhorrent, but you payed me to stand around and punch numbers into a computer, so thanks.

I have my sight set on the camera store in the mall. That would be a great job: learn about digital and film developing, get my hands on the newest equipment from Canon and Nikon. Pray for for me to get that job. I appreciate it!

So i started school 2 weeks ago. Its not bad. Actually, Greek 2 is very challenging, and so is senior thesis, but I wil l get through it. I'm writing my thesis on the possibility of the existence of created extra-terrestrial life as evidenced by physical evidence and philosophical/spiritual theory. Pretty kooky eh? I'm not much of a kook though. My research has been really interesting so far.

What else can I tell you about? I'm still helping the scouts out. I miss my weekends, but I have had some cool opportunities with the troop. This weekend we're going to Oceana Naval Air Station in Norfolk, VA for their big air show. I hope I come back with some cool pictures.

In other news Switchfoot has announced, semi-unofficially, their fall tour dates. They're playing the Norva (a four hour drive) on a tuesday November 7. I really want to take a road trip there. Skip school and roll out to hang with Switchfoot. Then on the 10th they're playing in Charlotte, NC, another 4 hour drive. I'm psyched.

So there's the Sanctus Real concert coming up September 23 in Culpepper, then Mute Math and Jonezetta (aka Jonezawesome) on October 20 in C-ville, then switchfoot 2 weeks later. It will be a good fall.

Thats all i have to say right now, except that the president of Iran is a goon, and George W. is making a pretty dumb move by treating our captured terrorists under the geneva convention. What army do they beling to? What country does their army belong to? rediculous. Pray for America, and rock out homies!
